Preveli beach, located just 4 kms drive + a small hike from us is a natural beauty. The beach is surrounded by a palm forest and has the river flowing into the sea – it’s definitely worth a visit.

Beaches
Ammoudi Beach
A 12-minute drive from Terra Preveli will take you to Ammoudi beach. We recommend visiting Ammoudi for its laid-back and authentic local vibe, complemented by a charming small river that flows into the sea. You’ll also find a kantina on the beach that serves refreshing beverages and simple foods such as salads and souvlaki.
There are several nice beaches along the stretch between our location and Plakias, including Skinaria, Ammoudi, Ammoudaki, and Damnoni.

Ligres beach
Located just a half-hour drive from Terra Preveli lies Ligres beach. It is an idyllic destination, with fewer crowds and ample space to relax and swim. We recommend Ligres beach, as after a refreshing swim and an enjoyable time by the sea, you can head over to Ligres Beach Taverna.

Tavernas
Ligres Beach Taverna
30 minutes drive from Terra Preveli you find Ligres Beach Taverna. This taverna, run by two brothers, exudes a laid-back atmosphere and serves outstanding food. We strongly recommend a visit, particularly for their fresh seafood dishes.
Taverna Violakis 1967
Make sure to visit Taverna Violakis 1967, a traditional Greek taverna situated directly on the beautiful beach of Damnoni, only a 10-minute drive from Terra Preveli. We highly recommend their excellent and authentic Greek cuisine, which is enjoyed by both locals and visitors.
Taverna Mariou
If you’re in the mood for a great dining experience, we recommend a visit to Taverna Mariou, the local taverna situated in Mariou, a small mountain village with a population of just 290 residents. Located a 10-minute drive from Terra Preveli, this taverna offers a relaxed and welcoming ambiance, with panoramic views of Plakias Bay.
Run by the father-and-son team of Constantinos and Yiorgos Violakis, Taverna Mariou is committed to using locally sourced ingredients and artisanal products. Their food is of exceptional quality and taste, often featuring a unique twist on traditional cuisine.
Hikes
There are several nice hikes in our area, for example the hike that leads to the famous Preveli beach.
This hiking route takes you through the valley of Preveli, and gives you views of the palm forest from above. The hike typically takes around 1.5 hours each way, totaling approximately 3 hours.
To make the most of your hiking experience, we recommend taking the hiking route on one side of the river and returning on the other side, creating a loop.
Villages / Towns
Rethymno
Rethymno is definitely worth a visit. The old town is a labyrinth full of alleyways and narrow streets. Many charming cafes, craft shops, and restaurants to explore.

Spili
Located 35-minute drive from Terra Preveli, Spili is a cozy village renowned for its refreshing and shaded plateias (public squares) and running waters. At the heart of the village lies the Lions Fountain, or ‘kefalovrissi,’ which features a series of lion heads that release cool and fresh spring water.
While in Spili, you can find local products or visit the kafenions and tavernas.
On Fridays, there is a farmers market to explore. Be sure to stop at Maravel Botanical Garden on your way to Spili, where you can stroll through the beautiful gardens or visit the shop offering all-natural products, teas, spices, and herbs.
